I've been reading a lot about self authenticity lately, being a new year it always feels like a fresh page in life, an opportunity to turn everything around that I didn't get around to changing, or improving last year.
The reality is, we really need to live every day like it is a new year. Embrace change that comes our way, but more importantly – create change.
Being a professional communicator (in both the real and spirit world), I often find I am working on how to communicate the messages of others, without really spending the time speaking and communicating my own truth.
Partially because I am still trying to figure out what some of that truth is and partially because I am too busy beating myself up about the past and what I haven't been doing, instead of looking at things from the perspective of gained growth and celebration of the things that I have actually done.
After all, if you are able to look at the situation and see what you should have done differently, then it would seem evident that you have learnt the lesson and growth is possible.
We spend so much time focusing on what we don't have in this life, instead of really appreciating what's in front of us. Even if what is in front of us no longer serves our highest good – be it a job or relationship or where we live, the reality is, this life is too short to be spent in places or with people that we are no longer are in alignment with. But these things do still deserve to be appreciated and honoured. Then, perhaps after we honour these things, we will have the courage to set the ones free that we need to, that we're courageous enough to let go of. In the process, not only freeing ourselves, but also possibly the other people. Isn't that an amazing gift to give someone and yourself… freedom to be happy.
Change is something that we think we like, at least the small stuff, the big things are set out to be the ones that we struggle to let go of so easily – even if you know that it is something that no longer serves you, we still struggle to set it free.
When it comes down to it – how can we practice self authenticity if we are not even being honest with ourselves.
So, for this year, I'm going to pretend that every day is new year's day and work towards a better me that is true to who I am today, not who I was yesterday. I challenge you to do the same.
