Navigating Heavy Energy in Today's World

I don't need to tell you that the energy of the world right now feels heavy. You can feel it. We all can. It's in the news, it's in our social media feeds, it's in the collective consciousness that we're all swimming in whether we realise it or not.

As someone who works with energy every day – both in readings and in energy clearing work – I want to talk honestly about what it means to be a sensitive person living in these intense times, and more importantly, how to cope without shutting down completely.

The first thing I want you to understand is that feeling heavy right now is normal. It doesn't mean something is wrong with you. It means your empathy is intact. It means you're connected to the world around you. That's actually a beautiful thing, even when it doesn't feel like it.

But carrying the weight of collective energy without any tools to manage it will drain you. I've seen it in clients, and I've experienced it myself. There were periods where I absorbed so much of the heaviness around me that I could barely function. It took me years of practice to learn how to stay open without being overwhelmed.

Here are some things that have genuinely helped me and that I recommend to my clients:

Limit your intake. I know it feels responsible to stay informed, but there's a difference between being aware and being consumed. Set boundaries with news and social media. Give yourself permission to step away. The world will still be there when you come back, and you'll be better equipped to engage with it from a rested place.

Move your body. Heavy energy gets stuck, especially in our shoulders, chest, and stomach. Walk, stretch, dance, swim – anything that gets the energy flowing again. It doesn't have to be intense. Even a ten-minute walk outside can shift everything.

Spend time in nature. The earth has an incredible ability to absorb and transmute heavy energy. Put your bare feet on the ground. Sit under a tree. Watch the sky. Nature doesn't carry the weight of human anxiety, and being in its presence can remind your nervous system what calm feels like.

Create a daily clearing practice. This can be as simple as lighting sage or palo santo, taking a salt bath, or doing a brief meditation where you visualise releasing any energy that isn't yours. I do this every single day, and the difference is night and day.

Connect with joy. This isn't about ignoring the hard things. It's about making sure the hard things aren't the only things. Watch something that makes you laugh. Cook a meal you love. Call someone who lights you up. Joy is not frivolous – it's medicine.

And perhaps most importantly – remember that you being in a good place energetically is not selfish. It's necessary. You can't pour from an empty cup, and the world needs people who have filled theirs. Taking care of your energy isn't a luxury. It's an act of service.

These are heavy times, yes. But we've lived through heavy times before. And what I know from working with spirit is that light always follows darkness. Always. Your job right now is to tend to your own flame so that when the light returns – and it will – you're ready to shine.
